Botox® basics

Botox® is formulated with a type of protein that, in small and controlled doses, has been used for decades to treat everything from hyperhidrosis (extreme sweating) to hemifacial spasms (twitching). It is classified as a “neuromodulator” alongside other products like Xeomin® and Dysport®. What that means is, when injected into the lines between your eyes, around your eyes, or on your forehead, Botox® cosmetic stops the nerves that send the message to your muscles, which tells them to “contract.” Repetitive muscle contractions are ultimately responsible for those pesky furrows that age us or make us look chronically angry. By relaxing targeted muscles, no motion occurs that produces lines. It is repeated expressions, like squinting or smiling, that transform dynamic lines (seen when making the expression) into static lines that stick around even when your face is at rest. 

The process
