Removal of lumps and bumps on the skin

At Ginsburg Dermatology Center in Birmingham, Alabama, we provide various services, including surgical, cosmetic, and medical dermatology. When patients arrive at our office looking to have a skin lump or bump evaluated and removed, we will help them get a proper diagnosis and determine if they need to undergo any special treatments for skin growth removal.

Why do I have lumps and bumps?

Everybody is unique and different and has their own characteristics. Over time, patients often notice changes in their skin, which may include new bumps and lumps. Skin growths, moles, skin tags, lesions, and other imperfections on the skin are often common and have no reason for concern, though some may be indicative of skin cancer and require further treatment. However, usual lumps and bumps are often benign. Yet, patients may want to have them removed because of their location or presence.

Some of the reasons why lumps and bumps may develop include:

  • Certain types of skin infections, including abscesses and cellulitis
  • Certain skin conditions with inflammation, like eczema or psoriasis
  • Benign growths such as lipomas or cysts
  • Certain tumor growths that may be either malignant or benign

How can I have lumps and bumps removed from my skin?

Most patients will benefit from the excision or removal of their lumps and bumps. The type of excision performed will depend heavily on the variety of growth diagnosed. This includes cancerous growths, which may require a specialized treatment such as Mohs micrographic surgery to resolve. After your evaluation and diagnosis, Dr. Tony Adar will recommend the best removal method.
